The Science of Astronomy

Don't confuse astronomy with astrology. Astrology has to do with horoscopes and predicting events based upon the position of the stars and planets. That is not what this section is about.

Astronomy is about a real study of the planets, stars, and space in general. If you have a curiosity of what is really going on when you look up at the skies, you should look more into the subject.

Unless your profession is as an astronaut or with the space program or as a museum worker within an astronomy museum, you will not have a practical use for it on a daily basis.

However, knowledge does make one's life richer. Wouldn't you like to know enough when your child comes up to you and asks you about shooting stars, the sun, the moon or anything shiny they may see when they look at the sky by night? Wouldn't it make the experience of watching the sun rise or set or viewing an eclipse more of an event if you know what was going on? Imagine how much more fun you can have laughing at those bad 1950s sci-fi movies.

We may not live long enough to actually see someone live on another planet for any extended period of time and even if we do, it probably won't be available for the public at large. That does not mean your life cannot be enriched by knowing the atmosphere of each planet, how each planet affects the Earth, and those nighttime astral shows.

Since Astonomy is such a great topic with many avenues that cannot possible be covered on this site, I will leave you with the following resources.
