Re-live Moments From The Not So Distant Past
What a time the last six decades of the 1900's were! Relive the history of four decades from the US point of view. Who were the movers and the shakers? Who were the famous and the infamous? What about those presidents? Do you remember that song from way back when? Who sang that song anyway? Bellbottoms, leisure suits, what were we thinking?
Where would you like to be today? Find your niche on the trip back into time.
History -
1960 - A time of great upheaval. From free love and drugs to assassinations and war. The baby boomers have made a mark.
1970 - Watergate and the admission of failure for an immoral war, inflation, gas strikes and disco. What a decade!
1980 - Reaganomics, the Cosby generation, the Simpsons... Why did the baby boomers call this generation the cynical, lost generation X?
1990 - Generation X is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. Violence is reported everywhere, but things are not quite that bad. What's up with that?
Music -
General Comments On Pop Music
50s - From Pat Boone to the Big Bopper, baby boomers rule the radio
60s - From Frankie and Annette to the Beatles and Stones a generation sends a message of love in a world full of hate
70s - From AM rock to disco and punk, a generation becomes self centered ignoring the problems of the world
80s - From new age and Duran Duran to hip hop and electronic music, all the rules have changed and almost anything goes
90s - Seattle had their share of the spotlight, but so have other trends taking us far from the sounds of the 50s rock
Television -
1960 Remember those days when the woman would be at home doing the housework in her high heeled shoes, dress and string of pearls while her children would rush off to the kitchen after school for homemade cookies and Dad would mindless walk in reading his paper and had the dog fetch his slippers. If only real life were actually that way!
1970 One day Archie started the spark that told the viewing audience we would be on the ride of our life from now on. Pushing the envelope slowly but surely with a nervous censor staff waiting nearby.
1980 What wasn't attacked in the 70s was pounced upon in the 80s. Even our families were no longer sacred!
1990 When did we push the envelope this far? The only thing we haven't done yet is full frontal nudity, hard core porn, or live executions. Just wait, we are still in the early 2000s!
Fads -
1960 Mini skirts, string bikinis, dances based on beach activities, lame beach movies, the Beatles
1970 Bellbottoms, polyester, disco fever, mood rings, Earth day
1980 Mohawks, the Duran Duran look, the Boy George look, dance music
1990 The macarena, shock television and radio, body peircing
Movies -
1960 The times we wasted in the movies we could have just had some action at the beach. At least there were some things worth our while.
1970 Do you remember the way we were in the 70s? Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the movies, we have all the stars in a war for a close encounter of the weird kind.
1980 What do you do when you are afraid the world is about to be shut down by a nuclear explosion, go to the movies and watch what happens when we finally push the button, or watch some movies about a bunch of witches, or goonies, or ghostbusters...
1990 I guess the writers were tired. What a decade for sequels with a few new concepts based on old ideas!
Books -
1960 Sit in your favorite java cafe while listening to the beatnik poets spouting of psuedo-intellectual thoughts while you discuss "The Agony and The Ecstacy", "The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich" or "The Peter Principle"
1970 When the CB started growing cobwebs it was time to get the book to read about "Running" which we really wanted to do until the author dropped dead of a heart attack from running. But at least there was the "Joy of Sex".
1980 What does it take to be a million plus copy bookseller? Just ask Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Danielle Steele and Garrison Keillor.
1990 What do you do after winning a police action where it seems nothing was won? Try reading the biographies or autobiographies of those behind the scene, or maybe a bio on someone who was connected with Watergate. Tough love and getting back to your senses are very popular.
