Leisure Suit Larry may offend a lot of people and is not for children or the politically correct. If this does not bother you, then feel free to read the rest of this report.
Leisure Suit Larry is a lovable loser whose persona you get to take on in this series of games by Sierra. The earlier adventures are no longer available as a separate game, but you can get them all now in a bundle pack that costs less than it would have were you to buy each of these games separately.
In the first game, the player takes on the role of Larry Laffer, a 38 year old computer geek who was just kicked out of his mother's home to grow up. In his first game, he is left in Los Wages with a wallet, $94, lint, and no means of transportation except for the cab. It is your job to keep Larry alive and get him with the right girl. You must type in commands for him in the earliest version or point and click commands in the newer version (both are included in this pack.) Maneuver Larry around between the bar, disco, hotel/casino, chapel, and store. You must watch out for dark alleys, dogs, and the street. Make sure you do not go broke. Look at everything and see what you can take with you. Above all, you will learn in this game and for the games to follow - SAVE IT!
The following adventures build up from there. In game two, Looking For Love, Larry wakes up in the bed of his dream girl from the first game and assumes this is a long term relationship. He was wrong and has even less than he did in the first game. He doesn't even have lint in his pocket. Get him through town with enough money and supplies so he will make the boat ride, and survive the trip and run through the island without being burned by a volcano to get married to the lovely Kalalalu.
The third game, Passionate Patti, you are both Larry and Patty. After a brief honeymoon, his marriage to Kalalalu is doomed and they split. She leave him for another woman. Can you get Larry together with Patty without having him eaten by the tribe of Lesbian Amazonian Canibals?
There is no official LSL #4. Long story! It is included in the manual given with this set.
Game #5, Passionate Pattie Does Undercover Work. Again Larry and Patty team up, but this time to bring down a big, sleazy operation. You job is to go all over the U.S. to find evidence and bring it to the FBI without getting killed.
Game #6, Shape Up Or Slip Out. One of the lamest games in the pack where Larry interacts with 9 different women.
As a bonus, you also get LSL Casino which is an interactive online/offline simulated casino where you can meet other characters while you take on your own character. Try to make as much fake money as possible to get a really good hotel room instead of the fleabag slum you start with.
There are also the Laffer Utility files which some are pretty fun, others are just a waste of disk space.
This game is well worth the money. It is not for children. It can be graphic. If you are easily offended, this game is not for you. If you are politically correct, this game will offend you, too.
If you decide on getting this, I would recommend you read the book that comes with this set. It will let you know beforehand what you should expect, how many points you need to accumulate, and what you should look for without giving it away. Each game has a test to verify age. You must be over 18 to play. Some will not let you in if you don't pass the test. One will let you in, but if you don't answer the questions right you will play the mildest version of the game.
It would make a good gift for anyone who likes adventure type games, but may be hard to find as Sierra no longer sells it. However, you will most likely find a used copy on ebay. Highly addictive!
