Grand Theft Auto: The Guide For San Andreas In Depth Guide For PS2
Parental Warning: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is not a game for children. The rating is MA which is meant for adults over the age of 18. The review for this game is loaded with language and suggestive words and also not meant for those under age 18. The reality is many children under the age of 18 do in fact play this game and are probably reading this review right now. That is between them and their parents. I cannot supervise children who read this review nor can I be in your living room to stop them. That is your job.
If you are a parent, at least be aware if your children are playing this game and set down boundaries for them. If you choose to let them play, make sure they know the difference between fantasy and reality, most children do understand the difference and would never do these things in real life. A handful of disturbed individuals, regardless of age, may be unduly influenced by this game. If you are responsible for such a person, please make sure they are not playing it.
Grand Theft Auto is a game that glorifies killing and general bad behavior including drugs and illicit sex. It is a game for sick degenerates who think it is funny, myself included. All of the Rockstar series of the Grand Theft Auto Games are rated MA.
If you do not want to hear the spoilers, go to the first GTA San Andreas strategy guide. If you don't mind the spoilers and it is your first time playing it, you may want to check out the first guide which tells you about the controls and other helpful basics.
This is still a work in project. I am writing this report as I am playing it the 10th time.
Welcome To San Fierro
A new phase in CJ's adventure is beginning. He has realized the friends he thought he had were really no good. He also has been able to make new friends who are actually more loyal to him. He starts to realize the world is bigger than Los Santos and his problems. He has a responsibility to his family and new friends. It is here where we really see CJ start to grow up.
Wear Flowers In Your Hair (difficulty 0/10)
Not really much of a mission. More like CJ is the driver as he meets his new posse. CJ is peeved when he sees the condition of the garage and Cesar and Kendl convince him it won't be too bad if he makes something out of the garage because he has them and Truth is on his side. Truth even knows some guys who can help.
Drive Truth to meet with a friend at the gas station. Honk your horn and Truth makes his introduction (you probably won't want to party with these guys after you listen to their banter, watch out for those polar bears!) to Jethro. Truth has another errand, drive to the hospital and don't pay attention because the less you know the safer you will be. Next you need to drive to meet up with Dewaine who is working a hot dog car. Honk your horn and Truth will do the introductions. He will meet you later at the garage. Another errand for Truth, drive to the police station. CJ is really curious and Truth tells him everything he knows is a lie and spouts all kinds of conspiracies going on. CJ thinks he is just a nut at that point. Next they drive to the RC shop and Truth introduces him to Zero who will be their technical genius. All are now on the way to the garage where they can finally begin the adventures to come.
Reward: Mission passed.
You will get a call from Zero who needs your help. Doing this favor is optional if you don't care about 100%. There is nothing you can do for Zero that will stop you from getting to the end of the game. If you want to do Zero, now is a good time as any to get them behind you. Otherwise, step into the marker of your garage and continue.
Buy Property
Now is a good time to buy the available buildings in the area:
- China Town $20,000
- Queen's $50,000
- Paradiso $20,000 Two Car Garage
- Calton Heights $100,000 Two Car Garage
- Doherty $20,000 Three Car Garage
- Hashbury $40,000 Four Car Garage
Remember it is part of the 100% to get these.
Purchase Zeros' RC Shot
He wants you to buy the store where he works. No problem, only $30,000. It's part of the 100%, but the missions you get stuck with range from a variety of frustration and annoying. Many, many times I have wanted to haul off and shoot Zero. To do his missions, go to his RC store.
If you decide you really hate the Zero missions, it will not stop you from going further in the game. You will only need to do them for 100%, but you could just buy the shop and move on.
Air Raid (difficulty 4/10)
Berkeley is Zero's intellectual rival. Zero apparently won a science competition and Berkeley thinks he should have won instead. Now they are warring with each other with technology.
Zero has transmitters on the roof of his store and Berkeley is trying to destroy them with RC planes that carry bombs. Zero needs CJ to shoot down those tiny planes before they do damage to the transmitters. The raid will take place for three minutes and ten seconds. By the end, you need to have at least one transmitters standing.
Hint: Doing this at night or when the sky turns orange will make it much harder to see, so do this in the daytime. Do not remove your finger from the circle button. Try to shoot them before they come anywhere near the buildings. The closer they get, the harder it will be to prevent them from damaging the transmitters. Spray across the sky in the direction the group is coming at you. There will be several groups coming at you at a time from different directions. The closer you get to the time being up, the more you will get coming at you at once.
Reward: $3000
Supply Lines (difficulty 6/10)
You have one plane, a rapidly dropping fuel tank, and five delivery boys to destroy. Good luck!
Hint: Hit the gas as little as possible, land when you can and map out your route carefully to conserve gas. The van straight ahead should be your first target. Use L1 to spray the van with bullets until it catches fire and someone will step out and shoot. Kill them. Next fly around the corner to the guy on the bike to the south. Land in front of them and spray with L1. Take off and head to the van in Hashbury. Park in front of him and spray with L1. Next go to the 2 guys on a bike in the King's area and shoot them. The last target is in downtown and the van is parked. Blow it up and fly back.
Reward: $5000
New Model Army (difficulty 4/10)
Your job is to keep the Bandit safe from the tanks and make a path for it to cross using your plane and some planks.
Hint: Keep the barrel blocking the Bandit while you clear the way, otherwise the tanks shoot at the Bandit. First drop a bomb on each tank. Then get planks to make bridges at two spots on the route. Then start clearing the barrels. Lower the Goblin with square and pick up objects with circle. Eight minutes is plenty of time to complete this. Destroy the tanks first so you can get on with this job.
Reward: $7000 and the store is now your asset.
555 We Tip (difficulty 3/10)
This is a CRASH mission, so don't expect big rewards. There is a DA Tenpenny needs you to discredit. That shipment you got from the Truth is what will be planted in his car. In order to plant it, you need to disguise yourself as a valet, steal the car, a blue Merit, take it to the garage, get it loaded, and return it to the car park without a scratch and call the crime hotline without calling too much attention to yourself. Oh, and time is of the essence, so be quick about it.
Hint: Traffic is your enemy in this game. One little scratch or a wanted level will screw it up. Get to the car park and kill the valet without too much unnecessary violence (a pistol will be fine.) Grab his cash and uniform. Go to the hotel front area with the other valets and step in the marker. Wait for the DA's car to pull up and drive it away. Quickly drive back to the garage. As long as you don't get in trouble, don't worry about denting the car going to the garage, just get there as quickly as possible. Plan your route on the map. Use the electric car track when there are no trams in sight. When the car is loaded, you must not to scratch or dent the car or get in trouble and do this as quickly as possible (you have under 2 minutes by the time you have the car loaded, so be quick without taking extreme risks). Ride the middle of the street along the tram tracks to avoid traffic and go towards the street where there are double lanes. Make a careful right turn on the street where the car park is located and avoid hitting anything. Carefully drive to the marked spot in the car park and run to the marked spot to make the call.
Reward: No money, but at least you get a new outfit and a chance to do the valet missions.
Deconstruction (difficulty 2/10)
Construction workers are messing around with Kendl. CJ and Cesar don't take kindly to this and figure this is a good time to get some new land by scaring them off.
Hint: Go in with armor, shotgun and any automatic weapon. As soon as you run towards the first trailer, the timer will start and you won't have much time. Shoot as many workers coming your way as you can. Hop into a heavy vehicle like the bull dozer and hit the portals by ramming into them hard, but watch out for the barrels which will explode. If you have a shotgun, stand back and shoot the barrels and the building has a good chance of blowing up so you won't have to ram it. It also saves you from running into them in case the building doesn't fall and will kill any workers nearby. Run over the workers as you can while ramming the other buildings. Do a drive-by on the other dozer trying to get you. As soon as you hit the last building, make your way over to the porta-potty where the manager is located. Roll his cube into the hole in the ground and listen to the cries of help, disgusting! Once in the ground, get to the cement mixer and back up at the marker. You then turn him into a permanent part of the community.
Alternative Way: Use your shotgun. Kill the approaching men. Use a sniper to get the guy coming at you with a bulldozer. Shoot the red barrels in front of the trailers which will in turn blow up the buildings. There are three trailers with the red barrels that you can do it on. For the others, be sure to use your automatic weapon to kill off all the men coming at you until they are all gone. With no one coming after you, quickly get in the bulldozer and wipe out the other 3 buildings. Drive to the portable toilet and move it into the hole. Use the nearby cement truck and bury him.
Reward: Mission passed and the Driving School is open after you get a call from Jethro.
Photo Opportunity (difficulty 1/10)
Not that it is difficult at all, unless you don't know how to aim the camera, but it is boring and long. Get a car to meet Cesar. Drive Cesar's car to Angel Pines. Take some pictures. Drive home. You really don't need a strategy plan here. Just don't flip the car, get busted or kill Cesar and you will be fine.
At least if you fail after you meet up with Cesar, you can go back and start the mission using the speed ahead time (right button).
Reward: Respect. This will open the door to a new world of bad guys to defeat as well as permanently end old friendships.
Jizzy (difficulty 3/10)
Woozie and his associate are at the garage to identify the people in the pictures you took in Angel Pines. You find out these people are Jizzy, T-Bone Menedez and some guy that just doesn't seem to belong, but is somehow the leader. Jizzy is a pimp of the Pleasure Domes which is CJ's way in to infiltrate the operation.
There are basically 4 parts to this mission. Drive the girl to the hotel. Drive to near Hashbury to make an example of a wannabe pimp. Drive to under the freeway where two guys are beating up on Jizzy's girl. Drive back to the hotel and eliminate the girl who wants to leave with a man of the cloth who is trying to "save" her, but taking advantage of her instead and kill them both along with the other driver who serves as his security in a drive-by.
Hint: Have armor, decent shooting and driving skills, and plenty of automatic weapons. The first part is easy, just drive. The second, quickly drive and either run over the pimp or get out of the car and kill him. Get back in the car and rush to the next crisis. Kill the men and get back in the car. If the car is not in top shape, get it repaired before you go to the hotel. Keep up with the two cars and do a drive-by. Shoot and drive, pump them with bullets as fast as possible and you will blow the cars up quickly.
Reward: $3000 and respect. The car will be listed as hot, so you need to lose the heat. Dump it or go to a Pay N Spray.
As soon as you finish this mission, you will get a call from Woozie asking you to stop by.
T-bone Mendez (difficulty 3/10)
Easy enough. You notice some tension between Jizzy and T-Bone. You offer your services to help collect the packages some people on bikes have taken.
Hint: Get a Sanchez as you never know when you may have to take shortcuts through grass and hills. Don't kill the guys on the bikes, just bump into them so you can get the package and bolt away quickly or they will follow you. Plan your route on the map to get whichever one is closest to you. Having a high motorcycle skill will really help. When you get all packages, return them to T-Bone.
Reward: $5000 + Respect
Mike Toreno (difficulty 4/10)
While with Jizzy and T-Bones, a distress call comes in from Toreno who is hiding in a back of a van that has been taken over by the wrong people. There is a tracking device with Toreno's phone and as long as he has juice, you can find the location.
Hint: Don't even bother to go to the other locations mentioned. Head straight for the airport in the center path so you will enter the terminal where the planes take off. That will save tracking time. Look for the signal bar to get higher and find the van (it is not always in the same spot, so if you fail and try again, don't rely on it being the last place you saw it). There will be two motorcycles guarding the van. Try running over the motorcycle guys which will leave less people trying to kill you when the van stops. Kill the ones that jump out of the van. Toreno will get out of the back and order you to destroy the van before the cops arrive. If you have a rocket launcher or heat seeking launcher (located in the airport near the hanger and in between the three tanks right near the water), you can take out the van really quickly. Otherwise, just shoot its gas tank. You will have a wanted level. Drive the gang around until it disappears. Drive into the airport garage and find a better 4 door car that will handle better in a high speed chase. As you leave the airport, you will get 4 stars. Go to the freeway and drive as fast as possible towards the Pay N Spray where you can hop down onto from the freeway. Once you lose the stars, drive back to the Pleasure Dome.
Reward: $7000 + Respect
Outrider (difficulty 3/10)
Toreno really wants to see what you can do and has you meet them at the gas station. After a pointless scene, you drive to another spot where you will get out and take a bike and the rocket launcher. You need to beat the van to the points where blocks are set up and take them out so it will not harm the van and guide it safely to where the crack factory is located.
Hint: Go in with armor, a heat seeking launcher (don't even bother with the rocket launcher), and quick loading machine gun. Good motorcycle skills will also be useful. Plan your route on the map and drive as fast as possible to the blocks. Use your HSL to take out the vehicles blocking the way and pick off all bad guys shooting you. Move on and do the same thing at the other 4 points. When the last block is clear, follow the van and be prepared to leave as you will have 3 stars. At least the save point across from the driving school is near.
Reward: $9000 + Respect
The next mission will be back at the garage. Tenpenny wants you again.
Snail Trail (difficulty 2/10)
A simple enough mission that does not require complicated strategy. A snitch is meeting with a reporter. Tenpenny does not want him to talk and needs CJ to silence them both. He even supplies CJ with a sniper rifle to do the job.
Hint: Get the rifle and go to the train station to get the Sanchez parked outside. Go ahead of the train on the tracks and drive to the train station in Los Santos at the first stop (Market Station in Vinewood). Drive your Sanchez up the stairs and around the corner and wait for the train to arrive going South and park around the corner at the Vinyl Countdown. The guy will get off the train then the spook meter starts. He will get into a cab. Drive way behind the taxi so you don't spook the reporter, but not so far that you lose him. Put at least one block between you and the snitch and you will be fine. Follow carefully to the Pier and keep sneaking. When he leaves the taxi to meet the guy, get off the bike and use your rifle to shoot him and the reporter. Go home.
Reward: Mission passed and a long way to go back. Tenpenny deserves to die after this one. He surely had other gang members doing his work that would have been closer to the scene. At least go to the airport and take a plane back to San Fierro.
Ice Cold Killa (difficulty 3/10)
Time to kill Jizzy! Out of the blue, you need his phone to find out the time and location of the event where all the bad guys will meet up so you can rub them all out at the same time. Mission starts between 20:00-6:00
If you have a sniper rifle, while you are in the rafters of the club, feel free to pick off anyone you see except for Jizzy and the girl he is talking to because it will spook him and you fail the mission. If you pick off others, it will give you fewer people to deal with once you get on the ground level.
Hint: Get armor, a sniper rifle, lots of machine guns and if fireproof get moltov cocktails and a Sanchez or other reliable vehicle. Park your car out of the way where it will not disappear. Use your sniper rifle to kill the guards (or run them over by driving really quickly into them). Then use the sniper to cause the pimpmobile to get four flat tires. Then you go on the roof of the Pleasure Dome via the complicated series of ramps across the street and jump down. Don't even worry about sneaking around inside. Jump over the side and fall down, you won't get hurt. If fireproof, lob fire at everyone standing in your way. If not, shoot everyone getting in your way and quickly make it to the door. Run to the vehicle you parked, provided it has not disappeared or take the nearest one available. Jizzy's driver will have a hard time driving the car if you flattened the tires and with you in a good car can easily catch up and do a drive-by. This may create a wanted situation, so be quick about blowing up his car. Jizzy will bail and you go after him to shoot him and grab the phone. Cesar will call and the mission is over and any wanted stars will go away.
Reward: Reward:$12,000 + Respect
Pier 69 (difficulty 4/10)
Time to meet Cesar at the Pier to settle things. T-Bones, Ballas, Ryder and all key players will all be there. The Mountain Cloud Boys are there to help and will lead the ambush, but trouble is ahead as the Mountain Cloud boys are being gunned down. CJ needs to take matters into his hands.
Hint: You will be supplied with a sniper rifle, but will need to walk in with armor, machine guns, and if you have it a heat seeking launcher or rocket launcher and grenades. The first part is easy, shooting down Ballas before they kill the Mountain Cloud Boys. Then go across the street and kill everyone trying to kill you and Cesar. Crouch and kill and make your way back to T-Bone to kill him. Toreno will see the massacre from the helicopter and bolt out of there. Ryder will jump off the pier to escape. CJ needs to run after him. Swim to the island with the boats and steal one. Catch up with Ryder and kill him. A drive-by is the easiest way (although if you can get ahead, you can use a rocket launcher or heat seeking missile), but to do a drive-by, make sure you are slightly ahead of his boat when you start shooting.
Reward: $15,000 + Respect. You killed Ryder, isn't that reward enough?
Toreno's Last Flight (difficulty 4/10)
Toreno escaped justice in CJ's eyes and needs to be caught. He is tipped off that Toreno is leaving on a chopper that is about ready to take off. CJ needs to catch up with it and bring it down.
Hint: Sanchez, armor, rocket launcher, sniper rifle, and machine gun. Get to the building catty-cornered from the helipad and perch on one of the stoops. Use the sniper to take out as many of the guys on the helipad as you can before they come chasing after you. Shoot them as you make your way to the helipad. When you reach the roof, the chopper will take off. Shoot any extra guys up there and steal the rocket launcher (sorry, you can't use the HSL if the helicopter gets too far). Jump down and to the waiting Sanchez. Route your path to get on the nearest freeway point. Try to get further ahead of the chopper, get off the bike, and aim your rocket launcher at the helicopter. If you can get it in two shots or less before the freeway ends, you will win. It gets harder if you have to chase it any further than that.
Alternate: This is the quickest way to get over it. Get a sniper rifle, machine gun and a heat seeking missile (there's one at the airport near the control tower by the three round tanks close to the water.) Hide on the northwest corner of the helipad on the ledge and pick off all the guards by the helicopter. Switch to machine gun and wipe out all coming at you on the ground and behind the gate. Switch to your HSR before going up the steps. A cut scene will take place as the helicopter tries to get away. Quickly aim for it and shoot on red. This eliminates the chase factor.
Reward: $18,000+ Respect.
A good time as any to start the Woozie missions.
Mountain Cloud Boys (difficulty 2/10)
If CJ wasn't notified by the guard on the way up, surely he would have figured it out on his own. Woozie is blind. He is surrounded by people who protect him (which is very apparent once you get to Las Venturas.) CJ meets with Woozie and is wildly waving his hands in front of his face to prove to himself that its true, but doesn't say a word to Woozie to let him know he knows the secret.
Anyway, Woozie wants to show CJ how they do things without violence. There is a meeting going on around the block. He wants CJ to come with him and observe. Woozie's car is in the shop, so he asks CJ to drive. As they get there, people are screaming and running past them. Woozie is bumping into walls, completely unaware of the carnage around him and asks why CJ is so spooked when a guy comes out of hiding to explain how they were cut down by Vietnamese gang members and they have come back, so he hides again. CJ must kill them and save Woozie in the process.
Hint: Armor, machine gun, sniper rifle. Crouch and shoot. Keep Woozie behind you as he can easily get shot. Make your way down the alley and kill them all in your path. Carefully turn the corner and aim for the guy on the roof, then shoot everyone else. Get in the car nearby with Woozie and now there will be a drive-by with two cars after you. Woozie is a terrible shot, so you will have to help him along. Don't get too close or you will catch your own car on fire. When they are gone, you drive Woozie back and finish the mission.
Reward: $5000 + Respect earned
Ran Fa Li (difficulty 2/10)
Woozie introduces you to his other associates who have very little respect for CJ until Woozie convinces them he would be a good part of their team. Although doubtful, he is given a chance through a series of grunts and laughs. CJ thanks them for their confidence in him. There is a package he needs to get for them to prove himself. Easy!
Hint: Seems like a walk in the park. Go to the garage at the airport. Find the car and drive away. The only thing is it was a set up. The moment you enter the car, gangs of Vietnamese people are after you. This one is easy enough if you drive fast and can do a drive-by. Instead of taking a straight shot north where all the people are waiting for you at different points, go west all the way until it turns going north again and then go east to the pier. In other words, you will go in one big circle. This way you are dealing with only the first two on motorcycles you can drive-by easily before they notify the others of your route. Drive as fast as you can beating the others already in position from getting to you.
Reward: $6000 and Respect earned
Lure (difficulty 2/10)
The Vietnamese gangs are waiting to assassinate their tong leader who needs to relocate. They need a lure to make them think he is going someplace else giving him time to escape somewhere safe. CJ is the lure in a Rancher. He cannot leave the car once he gets started or damage the car enough so that the gang will recognize its a lure.
Hint: Driving out towards Angel Pines is easy. No one is chasing you at this point. They will as soon as you drive to the red marker and have to make it from checkpoint to checkpoint. Gang members will shoot at your car as you drive, so you should shoot back and make them blow up or knock them off their bikes and run them over. Driving faster will be your best option. If your skills are really high, it won't be a problem. Once you get on the regular road, it is easy to pick up more speed to lose them. End at the gas station when they realize it was a trap and then go home.
Reward: $8000 and Respect earned
Amphibious Assault (difficulty 3/10)
You need at least 20% lung capacity to do this mission or else you will be promptly dismissed during a game of floor golf where Woozie is winning. If you don't have it, chase after some oysters. Woozie needs CJ to do him a favor that involves planting a bug on a ship in the harbor. CJ is not excited about it as he had a bad experience swimming (it involved a used condom getting stuck to his face.) Woozie confesses to CJ the real reason he cannot do it himself, he's blind. CJ agrees to do it.
Hint: Armor, silenced pistol, heat seeking launcher. If you know how to be still in the water as he catches his breath and stay out of the spotlights, this will be easy. Go from point to point to get him out of the maze of rocks and he will be spit out into the harbor where there are several ships keeping guard. They have spotlights and guns. They will shoot if they spot CJ. The higher his lung capacity, the longer he can stay under water which is a good thing. Swim as fast as CJ can underwater. As soon as he is near the end of his air supply, let him float up quickly in a spot without spotlights. Don't swim or move, just stay still and let him catch his breath and dive and swim until you get to the spot on the boat to take you up. Sneak around the boat until you spot guards and kill them with the silenced pistol. Make your way to the bottom of the ship, plant it, and work your way back. With the launcher, destroy the boats surrounding you so they do not shoot at you when you swim back to shore. When all the boats are destroyed, swim back.
Reward: $11000 and Respect earned
Tha Da Nang Thang (difficulty 3/10)
Woozie is going to have a place set up in Las Venturas and invites CJ to come by when it is set up. In the meantime, there are so many things for him to take care of now. CJ offers to help out where he can and meets with Guppy in the helicopter. CJ is required to get on the ship and confront the bad guys while rescuing the prisoners. Fun mission.
Hint: Don't bother taking anything with you. You will lose everything except your knife when the helicopter crashes. While in the chopper, you can try and shoot all the people on the deck, but it will not get all of them. They will bring down your helicopter with a heat seeking device. Don't go on the ship. Go on shore and drive to the Ammu-Nation or wherever you want to resupply your weapons and armor. Have a little something to eat if some of your health is gone. Then go back to the ship. Crouch and kill your way to the front. There is extra armor and health on board. In the basement is a crate of slaves you need to free. Once freed, you must confront the "snakehead" and kill him with the katana (or just shoot him). Go to the refugees and set them free in their boats. You go back to shore in your boat and the mission is over.
There is a glitch here which you can have a bit of fun. Once the helicopter crashes, you cannot get in trouble. Kill all the cops you want. Run over the peds. Destroy things. It won't matter. This would be a perfect time to collect all the oysters, including the one near Easter Bay and on the north island, but if you fly over the restricted area you will be shot. If you shoot at gang members, they will shoot back, but you won't get wanted stars for it.
Reward: $15000 and Respect earned
Yay Ka Boom Boom (difficulty 3/10)
CJ is getting bummed out about having to kill his homeboy, Ryder and can't believe Smoke sold them out. Cesar assures him he is a hero and did a good thing. Ryder even made a pass at Kendl. Woozie comes by and assures CJ that Cesar is correct and if he really wants to send his former friend a message, it is best to put them permanently out of business by destroying the crack factory. Woozie has a friend who can help.
Hint: CJ needs to go downtown to a garage where there is a car with a bomb attached waiting for him to drive inside the crack factory. Drive carefully. When you get to the gate, kill the people outside guarding it to attract attention. The gate will open and you can ride in. Run over the people who are shooting you. Drive up the ramp and into the red marker. Press circle to activate the bomb and run out. Shoot anyone in your way. Once you leave the door, the building will blow up. Guards will shoot at you. Kill them. One is shooting at you from on top of a crate. Shoot him and get up there by climbing on the crates (just make sure CJ has no fat or else he won't be able to climb up, if he is too fat, use a car to reach the top of the crate and climb the wall). That will lead you to an outside wall. Jump over and walk to the front of the gate. If you don't go over the wall, you will have to find other creative ways to get out.
Reward: $25000 + Respect earned.
You will get a phone call from the mystery man demanding you get to the ranch in Las Venturas. The last island is now open.
You also get a call from Cesar which will open the way to unlocking the Wang Auto Show Room, Import/Export, and lots of races, but that is only if you have finished driving school. If not, he will not call and you will miss out on some fun missions that are part of the 100%. It won't stop you from getting to the end of the storyline if you want to skip it.
You could completely ignore the other side missions and move on to the next island
Side Missions Part Three
Once you have completed all the tasks on this side of the island, you can feel free to do more of the side missions as you will no longer be blocked by travel and some will open automatically when you complete certain missions or tasks.
Beat the Cock (The Cluckin' Cock Triathalon)
Totally pointless activity and does not count for 100%, but you can win money in these races that involve swimming, riding a bike, and running. There are two locations that hold the races, but you can only do them on Saturday and Sunday after you unlock Las Venturas. One is at Santa Maria Beach which is the easier one with a reward of $10,000 for first place. The other is at Fisher's Lagoon down the path nearby a save location and close to a bridge and it is a bit difficult, but the reward is $20,000 for first place.
Hint: Max out CJ's stamina, lung capacity, and bicycle skills and have a low fat stat. You want him to be able to move faster than the others without tiring out too quickly. Don't worry too much about being in the lead in the water because sooner or later they will all pass you up. At least try to keep up with the crowd and pass them all up when on the bicycle leaving them to eat your dust and run as fast as possible tapping X when you need a boost.
Reward: $10,000 - $20,000
Valet Mission (difficulty 2/10)
Go to the hotel, Vank Hoff (gotta love those names!) wearing your valet uniform and step into the marker. There will be four levels to complete that add an extra car and narrows your margin of error to get the cars back and forth. For each car you park correctly and in a timely manner, you are given bonus time, so it pays to be careful.
Hint: Wait in the driveway on the right side (not the sidewalk with the other attendants) and approach the driver's side of the car to get ahead of the other attendants. Instead of taking the car towards the street, drive through the walkway to get into the garage. That will shave off quite a bit of time. Just be sure not to hit the other valet attendants coming out or you will get penalty time taken away. When he parks the car, don't even bother taking the time to close the door or waiting for confirmation. Just have CJ super-run (tap X) back before the next car approaches.
Reward: Vank Hoff is now an asset.
Girlfriends
Girlfriends are pretty much a waste of time and not required for 100%. The girls on this part of the island do have perks just for dating them you may want to consider.
Katie
Katie is a nurse who can let you keep your weapons and repair CJ when he is broken for free. The benefit, if you start a new game after having dated Katie, you will never lose your weapons when you are sent to the hospital. You can find her on the NE end of the country club doing some exercises. She likes 75% muscle and high sex appeal. You can date her between 12:00 to 0:00 at her house at the Paradise district of San Fierro, along the highway in the far north of the city. She likes the diner down the street from her home, the only dance club in San Fierro, and driving a fairly slow speed around the Gant Bridge area near her home or near China Town.
Michelle
She is a mechanic who can repair your car for free in her shop. You can find her in the driving school at first. For dates, pick her up at her garage between 00:00 and 12:00. She likes 50% fat and 50% muscle with high sex appeal. She likes bars and the only dance club in San Fierro. If she wants you to driver her, drive fast and carefully. She may also want to do the driving and that is a very easy date. At 40% she will invite you in for coffee. At 50% she will give you the keys to her Monster Truck. At 100% she gives you a racing suit with Michelle's Garage logo on the back.
Freight Train (difficulty 4/10)
This will only be open once the last island is opened.
There are only 2 levels to this and it is tricky to learn how to handle the train, but once you get a bit of practice to control and brake, this is quite simple. Each level requires 3 stops to 1 different point on each of the islands. You have a certain amount of time to get to the next stop and must brake, stopping in the red marker, all without derailing the train.
If you finish level one, you can always go back and do level 2 at any time without having to worry about doing it from level 1 all over again.
Oysters 35-50 (difficulty .5/10)
If you followed my advice and got the oysters to build up your lung capacity for Woozie, you should have only the oysters left at Las Venturas to find. Get this map and find the rest. Getting all the oysters is required for 100%, but will not stop you from reaching the end of the game if you ignore it. One plus of getting them, you can feel free to date all the women without having to worry about their requirements. They will all invite you in for coffee right from the start on a good date. If you are on the mission The Da Nang Thing, you can easily get all of the oysters without getting wanted stars.
Trucking Mission (difficulty 4/10)
There are 8 levels to finish this one. You don't have to do them all at once. It will let you do the next level up after you finish the last level, so you don't have to start all over from the beginning.
The missions will involve one of the following elements: time deadline, damage control, beating a wanted level (hot goods), time deadline, damage control, beating a wanted level (hot goods), time deadline with damage control, and a 4 star level wanted for hot goods. The key to succeeding in this is to have a pretty high driving skill and to map out your route. In the final few missions, one of the easiest ways to get around is by using the railroad track instead of the roads, just watch for the train. The destination is not set after the first 2, so if you fail one level, you might be sent to a different location the next time around. If a location is too hard to reach for you, reload and hope to get a better one.
The stolen goods can be tricky, but with a high enough skill it will keep you from flipping over too easily when the cops ram into the side of the truck. It is best to do it without slowing down at all. If you slow down, the cops can ram you easier. Also try and avoid traffic as much as possible because they tend to get in the way. If you can't avoid it, weave in and out to make the cops run into them instead of you.
The last two are only open if you have access to the third island.
More Property Available
Once the north island opens up, now is a good time to buy the following open property:
- El Quebrasos - Price: $20,000
- Tierra Robada, $20,000
- Fort Carson, $30,000, one car garage
Driving School
There are 12 tasks to complete to pass. You must have 70% or higher to pass. Bronze medal is the lowest level of passing. If you get all bronze, you get a Super GT spawn outside the school. The next level of passing is the silver. If you get all silver, you get a Bullet along with the Super GT. The highest medal is gold. If you get all gold medals, you can get a Hot Knife, Bullet and Super GT.
If you want to do the Wang Auto Showroom Asset (which will include Import/Export and missions with Cesar) and to do the races around all of SA, you must pass driving school. Without the driving school completed, none of these will be open to you.
The 360 (difficulty 1/10)
You are given an Infernus. Using your left analog stick, X and square buttons, your job is to move your car in a perfect circle in a short time. This is really as easy as it gets.
The 180 (difficulty 1.5/10)
You are given a Blista Compact which handles sloppy. Move your car along the course without hitting any cones in the allotted time and park in the right spot. Use the R1 handbrake to make it easier just before you hit the first turn and floor it the rest of the way, coast near the end and handbrake.
Whip and Terminate (difficulty 3/10)
You are given a Banshee. It is a fast car, but does not handle very well. Do the course as fast as possible in the allotted time without hitting the cones and park in the right spot. Floor it into the turn and power slide into it. Move your car into the outside part of the cones before the turn and you can do a more controlled power slide towards the end.
Pop and Control (difficulty 3/10)
You are given a police car. Go as fast as you can without hitting the cones and park in the right spot. The problem, midway into the course your tires will be popped and you will have to get to the end without bumping into the cones. Pick up speed early and let go of the gas just as you hit the spikes and concentrate on steering your car carefully through the course. As you are about ready to hit the end area to park, give it a little gas so you won't run out of time and handbrake.
Burn and Lap (difficulty 6/10)
This has got to be one of the most difficult things to do until you get some practice at how to do it. You are given a Banshee which is a fast car, but has control issues. The easiest way to pass is to do this in first person driving view (make it look like you are actually behind the wheel, keep pressing select until you get there.) You have to do 5 laps around this tight oval circle and do it in less than 40 seconds (less than 35 for gold more than 40 seconds or damage will make you lose). Keep your finger on X, but power slide around the corners by using R1 while holding X. Keep in the center of the cones, but as soon as you come to just before the curve, aim slightly to the left so you can make a wider turn without hitting the cones. Your goal should be to not stop at all and if you hit even one cone, start over.
It took me 25 times to get the hang of it, but now I can do it with no problems at all. Practice, practice, practice. If you get too frustrated, come back to it later. If you can do this, you can do anything you put your mind to.
Cone Coil (difficulty 4/10)
After you have finished Burn and Lap, all the rest are simple in comparison. You are given a Banshee and a course you must get through in a very short time and park it in the right spot without hitting the cones or going off the course. Floor it as you weave through the openings. Power slide to turn and floor it to come back and park.
The '90' (difficulty 4/10)
Yet another Banshee car where you get to do a cool power slide park between two cars. Pick up some reasonable speed. Press the gas only partially down and line the left side of your car up to about the very front edge of the right parked car (adjust a tad to get it right). Guide your car slightly to the right of the car on the right path and then power slide into the space with your handbrake. It is harder than it looks.
Wheelie Weave (difficulty 5/10)
Banshee. Give it a lot of gas and floor it to make it up the ramp on the outer edge as much as possible to hook the car on its side as you leave the ramp. Keeping it on two wheels and making it go straight is the tricky bit. It will take lots of practice. Try overturning in the opposite direction of how your car is leaning to keep it balanced and lightly give it gas as you make your way to the end. You must park straight and in the center of the marker, or at least close enough to it to pass.
Spin and Go (difficulty 5/10)
Finally a different car, a taxi. Do the course without hitting the cones and end up in the parking space in the right time. The first half you are driving in reverse (Use your R2 and L2 to see behind you). Then there is the mid-course where you have to make a turn in reverse so you can drive the second half of the straight way going forward. You shouldn't release square until the car is straight going the opposite direction. This is tricky and may take a few times to get it right.
P.I.T. Maneuver (difficulty 3/10)
You are in a police car chasing another police car (and the driver will make rude comments to you). Time is not really a factor, per se, but you do have to spin the other car out before he gets to the finish line without damage. Speed to catch up with the car until you reach just behind his back tire. Hit the other car at a 45 degree angle from the left or right. Keep your car pressed against it as you continue to drive forward until the car spins behind you.
Alley OOP (difficulty 6/10)
Back in the Banshee again. I really hate this one. Floor it when it begins, line yourself up to have only two wheels on the side of the ramp when you approach it. When you hit the ramp, let go of X and use the left analog stick to adjust your pitch in the direction you want your roll to go. Try to land flat on your wheels by not letting the barrel roll go past its original position. Practice, practice, practice.
City Slicking (difficulty 5/10)
You are driving in a Super GT. I love this one! It is a fast car, but you do need to watch it as it can spin out of control very easily. Do this at night as there is less traffic and pedestrians. Use the map and figure out your route before you get too far. You have a limited time (2 minutes) and cannot take any damage. Floor it and do not use the brakes, ease up on the gas before you have to take a corner and concentrate on handling the car. Be sure to hit the red marker and then make your way back to the school. If you made it to the red marker in 1 minute or less, you have a good chance of winning. If not, start over. Stay in the middle of the road and on the tracks as much as possible.
On To The Next Island
Missions Only Open After Passing Driving School
If you did not finish or even start driving school, the following missions will never be open to ou.
Car Front Business - Chop Shop
As soon as you have wiped out the crack factory in Yay Ka Boom Boom, you are about ready to leave the island. Provided you have completed the driving school, you have another slew of missions and challenges ahead of you. Jethro will be making a call to CJ pretty soon. One would be to let him know they are getting ahead with plans to find cars for the chop-shop and need a front to look legitimate, so he needs to buy the car dealership across the street from the garage.
This mission is only good for getting 100%, but in no way affects your ability to make it to the end of the game. If you don't care about 100% and want to move on, you can forget about doing these unless you want something extra to do.
Purchase Wang's Auto Shop (difficulty 0/10)
When you get the call from Cesar, go across the street and buy it. This will open up the missions at the garage with Cesar.
Zeroing In (difficulty 4/10)
There is a car on the list. Zero had it implanted with a device to track the driver's movement whenever she uses a cellphone. You need to find the car and steal it with a P.I.T. Maneuver.
Hint: Catch up with her easily from the beginning. Take the dirt path on the left which will go behind the garage and towards the street. You should see the car you need pull up shortly. Slam into one of her back quarter panels to spin her out. When she flees steal the car and take it back to the garage.
Reward: $5000 and the Wheel Arch Angel mod garage is now available which will modify street racing cars.
Test Drive (difficulty 4/10)
This is fun, but can get tricky if your driving is poor. Steal a car from the showroom and follow Cesar around town who is being chased by cops. Don't lose him and don't kill your car as you make it back to your garage and you win.
Hint: Keep up, but don't kill yourself trying. As long as Cesar is within a two block area of you, you won't lose him. Staying behind has the advantage because the cops are more busy chasing Cesar than you and won't crash into you as much. Avoid the trams that will be active. You don't really need to use the nitro if it will make you spin out of control. Just keep following him. Soon he will lose the cops and will want you to follow him down an alley where the cops will show up again. Back up and follow Cesar down a path that will be blocked. Keep to the right side and then head for the garage.
Reward: $5000
Customs Fast Track (difficulty 2/10)
You have a special car waiting for you at the docks. Cesar will be with you. You need to work the crane as Cesar looks inside the crates for the right car. When you find the car, you need to take it back to the garage after you get it past the other thugs who will be shooting at you and you need to save Cesar.
With this mission as well as getting the cars for the rest of this type of mission, money will be deducted from your ultimate prize if you come back with any damage to the vehicle. It is sometimes worth the $100 trip to the Pay N Spray to make up for the damaged door or fender that will cost you an extra $500 or more.
Hint: Go in with armor and a quick loading weapon. Working the crane is pretty easy, but may take some practice. When you get the car, you will have a gun fight to deal with. Crouch and use the cover of the car you drove into the area. Wipe them out before they kill Cesar and then take out the second wave and hop in the car to bolt out of there.
Reward: $10,000 minus damage plus the Import/Export is open.
Puncture Wounds (difficulty 3/10)
This is also fun, but a bit tricky. There is a woman driving the car thumbing his nose at Cesar. They need that car and she isn't making it easy to get. CJ needs to make her stop and steal the car by using spike traps.
Hint: Map out your route. She will be on the freeway going south. Drive as fast as possible to get ahead of her, preferably before she turns to the road going left. As soon as you have at least 5 car spaces between you and her, drop the trap and keep riding ahead in case she misses it or another car runs over it. Once she runs over the trap, you will get out, fix the tires and come back to the garage.
Reward: $5000 and the Wang Auto Showroom is now an asset.
Export/Import Missions
If you were wise, you would have come to this section earlier and collected these cars in your various garages, however, don't worry, it may be time consuming, but this mission will get you a lot of money if you know where to look.
Just remember, the amount of money you can get for the cars will depend on the car's value minus any damage. Even a ding in the door or a broken fender can cost a few hundred. Use the Pay N Spray near the garage and take the train tracks to the shipyard.
